TIPS

This page is intended for us to share a few hints and tips that we have discovered in our time living, working and keeping people entertained in South America; Cusco in particular!

Now as a bunch of bike nuts, we think that mountain biking is the best, most adventurous and most fun way to see Peru. However, there is an abundance of other activities available in and around Cusco. It can be hard, however, to tell the difference between the quality operators and the cowboys, so here are a few that we know and can recommend.

Amazonas Explorer provides the best rafting, trekking and multi-activity trips in town.

For something really different we can put you in contact with Cloud Walker Paragliding, call in to our office for more info.

If you are looking for an adrenaline buzz, check out Cola de Mono, the highest zipline in South America, best done in combination with our Backdoor Machu Picchu trip.

For an unforgetable Jungle experience we recommend Sandoval Lake Lodge, run by the folks at Inka Natura.

A lot of people ask us about the Inca Jungle Trail and our own version of this trip is known as Machu Picchu via the Backdoor. We leave Cusco earlier which allows us to ride the ENTIRE downhill and cut the walking down to a minimum. This leaves us with plenty of time to visit the hot springs in Santa Teresa and enjoy the thrill of the Cola de Mono ziplines, just outside of Santa Teresa.

Another popular excursion is into the hills around Cusco on Motorbikes (Dirtbikes), Quad Bikes or Horse Riding. There are many operators in town, so be careful to check the quality of the equipment, exactly what is included in the tour and if you are inexperienced, that the guide can speak English well enough to give proper instructions. Another option for a half day of excitement around the hills of Cusco is our ride The Cure .

Before you sign up for a Sacred Valley Tour have a read through our Sacred Valley information.
