LARES BIKE, BBQ 'N' SOAK

LARES Bike BBQ ‘n’ Soak -  2 D/1N

DAY ONE:

Leaving Cusco at 7am, we enjoy our included breakfast on the 2½ hour drive up to Abra Amparaes (4387m). Here we’ll get kitted up with all the usual great biking equipment we supply including: a full suspension US$2500 Kona mountain bike, a Bern Macon mountain bike helmet, gloves, mountain biking goggles from Dragon, and a custom Buff scarf to keep your head from freezing and the dust out of your mouth and nose!

After we’re fully kitted out, we receive a safety briefing including tips on cycling techniques. Then we set off! This downhill of over 63km and 2000m takes us from the Andean mountains to the high jungle of the Amazon basin passing through numerous local communities. We have options of pure dirt road or on occasion we can take the fantastic single track options. Along the way, we enjoy our sumptuous lunch. Close to the jungle town of Manto, we stop and load the bikes onto our private support vehicle for the one hour uphill drive to the hotsprings of Lares.

Arriving there, we unload all the kit and set up camp in the hotsprings. Then with everyone pitching in, we prepare our succulent barbeque dinner and enjoy the heat of some of the hottest springs in Peru – possibly accompanied by a couple of wet ones or some wine (included).

DAY TWO:

After our night under canvas, we get up in the morning to have breakfast but that still gives us plenty of time to once again enjoy the delights of the hotsprings.

Late morning, we once again load everything into our private transport and head up to the pass of Abra Lares (4218m) - a hours drive away. Here we unload the bikes and once again get kitted up before we set of down to the town of Calca, 38km below in the Sacred Valley of the Inca’s.  Today we begin of riding down original Inca trail through the most magnificent gorge, it is here we begin to understand how the Incas without inventing the wheel managed to build the best mountain bike trails.

On the way, we stop for a quick lunch before we finish our bike ride in the Plaza de Armas at Calca. Loading our bikes onto our bus, we then drive back to Abra Ccorao where those who wish can unload and cycle down into Cusco finishing in the late afternoon (around 4pm). Others can just sit back and chill in the bus, enjoying the amazing views of Cusco.

INCLUDED: Mountain bike guide, private transport, biking gear, breakfast, snacks and lunch both days, BBQ dinner, water, tent, and free beer or wine on the evening of day 1 during the bbq.

NOT INCLUDED: sleeping bag, sleeping mat (but can be rented).

Please note – you are expected to assist the crew with cooking, washing up, and setting up camp duties.
